You might of thought that last week’s post about #GivingTuesday would be the last big charitable call to action post on this blog for a little while. Think again! You probably didn’t know it, but today is the United Nation’s International Volunteer Day (IVD). It’s a day to encourage people to volunteer, in their communities, and around the world for organizations large and small. Each year has a theme and this year’s theme is #GlobalApplause – give volunteers a hand, which recognizes the efforts of volunteers worldwide.

You might be wondering how exactly to participate in IVD and it’s pretty simple—volunteer! There are so many ways to do it, both in your community and around the world. The United Nations Volunteer program has a great site with many resources on how to volunteer with the UN both in the U.S. and abroad. One of the most interesting parts is that there are over 125 opportunities to volunteer online from anywhere in the world! No matter what your talents are, you can find a match. There are openings for writing and editing, art and design, research, technology development, and much more. These online opportunities are for a number of nonprofits all around the world.

You could also celebrate by volunteering in person with a local charity near you. We’ve featured several in this very blog! These include Philadelphia Reads, Mighty Writers, AHEDD, Paws & Stripes, S.P.E.A.K, and others! Even if you can’t volunteer yourself, we can at least be thankful for all the volunteers around the globe who are helping to make the world a better place. I know all of us here at Olive Devices definitely are!

Sincerely,
